Electronic Document Management (EDM) Systems Training

Many pharmaceutical companies are planning to gain and maintain a competitive advantage through information automation. Software suppliers have responded to this industry direction, and a wide selection of application programs are available for logistics, laboratory automation, and manufacturing operations management. These software systems are now stable and trustworthy enough to justify the significant investment required for pharmaceutical-grade installations.

Experience with recent Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) projects has demonstrated the need for an Electronic Document Management (EDM) system as a precursor to and a component of many of these systems. Typically, Business Practice Re-engineering (BPR) work identifies this need as the re-engineered workflows and rewritten procedures are reduced to practice in the EDM system. Because of this critical, connective role that the EDM system plays, EDM implementation teams benefit substantially from early-phase training to:

bulletAnalyze the effects of EDM on operations and business systems
bulletReceive the "hand-off" of BPR output, and reduce it to practice
bulletEvaluate and select EDM software, vendors, and proposals
bulletQualify, quantify, and justify the benefits and costs of EDM
bulletApply existing PC / client-server infrastructures to the EDM systems
bulletSupport manufacturing, laboratory, and logistics projects

The Hollis Group offers a series of unique courses to train EDM project teams in current technology, project planning, and system implementation. The courses are conducted in case study format, with lectures, discussions, and hands-on labs that have been specifically tailored for the pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotech industries. Participants learn the features and functions of EDM systems, and they gain the experience and confidence to evaluate vendor demonstrations and proposals rigorously. In essence, they become "expert shoppers" for EDM systems and services. They also learn implementation strategies from seasoned instructors who have experience with EDM software installations and document simplification / BPR projects.

The training is usually conducted at or near clients’ facilities, to minimize costs and schedule disruptions. Courses range from introductory (1-day) through advanced (5-day) levels that accommodate all phases of EDM projects. Customized training, designed around specific software and client documentation systems, is also available.
